Character Based Training

The compass symbolizes our direction in life.

Exploring and discovery awakens our inner self, creating a desire to learn more about the world around us, setting in motion a vision. A vision is the source of all achievement.

The sextant symbolizes our current position in life.

Learning with projects.

Learning with responsibility.

Motivation is education.

Learning how to learn.

Discovery of natural talent is motivation.

The chart symbolizes our desired destination in life.

Projects and the associated opportunity is the ship that gets us there.

The Power of Projects

Projects require a goal where students must search for a method, acquire skills and knowledge, accept failure and bounce back from it, and keep trying until the goal is achieved. They learn through experiences, more important, they learn how to research and apply knowledge. Success is measured by the complexity of the project and the ability to finish it. This type of education motivates one to learn more about the world we live in while creating a lifetime love to learn. The laws' of nature is the motivator and instructor.

Objective: Offer hands-on marine activities in a non competitive learning environment.

Patriots Point Sea Scout leaders, Bob Webb and THom Harrison, have been working with youth and have been inspired by the need and opportunity of a maritime hands-on education program. The goal is to develop a program that would support the Yorktown and Charleston Explorers, Inc. education programs. Many of the concepts for this project come from Bob Webb's personal Motivation Tool Chest website. This website averages 40,000 visits per month. He gets letters asking to attend his school, which he does not have.

Below photo is the suggested location for the Marine Institute, that is adjacent to

Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum

The Patriots Point Development Authority is planning to use this location for a hotel. Officially, Patriots Point primary land use is for education programs. Unofficially, it seems commercial use has priority, education is down the list. The argument is, commercial establishments will pay for education programs. The problem is, by the time they are in place there will be no room for major education facilities. There is a master plan for commercial use, but no master plan for additional education use.

The Yorktown staff is searching for ways to expand education opportunities. Space is available aboard the Yorktown for a Marine Institute program, but sponsoring organizations must raise their own money.

Financial support can be achieved by combining education with tourist interest. Basic concept.
