World War II

Five months after Perl Harbor, the Doolittle Raiders bombed Japan with land base bombers taking off from an aircraft carrier. They delivered a psychological blow to the Japanese and a psychological victory at the home front. This attack led to the Battle of Midway.

At the battle of Midway, four heavy Japanese aircraft carriers were sunk. This was a major victory and the turning point during the Second World War.

President George Bush Sr. was shot down while piloting a plane similar to this. His gunner and copilot were killed. He bailed out and, in time, became President of the United States.
