Tourist Can Support the Education Program

To finance the program, an 18th century waterfront park would attract tourist and the school would offer self-development and workplace leadership training.
  • Training would take place in a maritime environment where tourist would mingle or observe training activities.

  • Aboard a windjammer tourist would mingle. At a blacksmith shop tourist would observe. (A highly visible training environment is highly motivating)

  • The program would provide industrial organizations leadership training that would focus on responsibility and decision making on the front line. (New trends in industrial organizations)

  • The organization methods of Civil War rein-actors could be the park format. Mystic Seaport Museum and the Living Classroom Foundation could also be used as examples.

To my knowledge, combining the above elements into an education program has never been done, but I do not see why in cannot be done.

More information on this concept can be found at the Motivation Tool Chest theme park website.

Space Camp

In Huntsville, Alabama, there is a Space Camp, that is also a space museum that has several goals.
  • To inspire young people to seek a career in the space industry.

  • Inspire young people to adopt a role model from the space program and attach a dream to that role model.

  • To create a desire to be a super achiever.

This is achieved by the interactive displays and having students experience training in simulators, similar to the one’s astronauts use. The cost is about $200 per day with meals and lodging.

There are weekend and week long programs. Students sleep in bunk rooms, similar to the USS Yorktown. They have programs for all age groups from 10 to senior citizen. Most are promoted in house, but others are developed and promoted by outside education organizations such as colleges and Dale Carnegie. The course listed here was promoted by the Elder Hostel organization.

When going to different classes, students in their NASA jump suits, walk through the museum among the day visitors. Some think they are real astronauts. The attention makes students walk a little taller.

The Patriots Point Museum has the bases for a similar program, promoting the maritime industry. The maritime industry would support this type of program.
